Dear Gabriella,

You taught us hypnobirthing a while back. We had our baby boy on September 9th at the mater hospital . His name is carter Kenneth Simko Costello ( 2 middle names) 🙂

I thought I would share my birth story with you.

I was due the 31st august. My waters broke at 3am Sunday 8th September. I was actually going to get a stretch and sweep on the 8th. I wasn’t getting any surges. I put on some of the hypnobirthing rainbow tracks and tried to get some sleep. We went into the hospital at 7am as they wanted to check it was my waters and everything was ok. As I wasn’t having contractions they said to go home and just keep an eye on everything to make sure my waters stayed clear.

When I was home nothing was a happening and I couldn’t rest at that point so I vacuumed and mopped our house to try get things moving.

After I had a shower and started to relax listening to the hypnobirthing music I tried to get some rest but the surges started to come on. I was getting pains constantly in my thighs. At about 8pm we headed back to the hospital as the pain in my thighs was excruciating. I wasn’t feeling any pain anywhere else. The surges were still irregular but the babies heart rate was quite high at about 140-160 constantly. They wanted to monitor the baby.

I was quite pail and the drs gave me a IV drip hydrate me. ( they butchered my hands trying to find a vein. It took 3 drs to get it in) at 11pm I was still pail and on my way to the toilet threw up. This is when everything started to happen and my surges became regular. I was still only getting pains in my thighs. The only comfortable position was sitting on the bed. We moved to the birthing suite, I put relaxing music on with headphones and used the hypnobirthing breathing techniques. I do not remember much but had my partner massage my legs during each surge. I tried a shower but just wanted to sit down and couldn’t get comfortable.

At one point I even let my partner have a nap for half hour as I was in control of my breathing and pain.

At about 330am 9th September the baby started to move down. I sat on the toilet to help bub get into

position. At 4am I felt ready for the baby to come. I lent on a beanbag on all fours on the bed. The pains in my legs through each surge were still excruciating, I asked the midwife to chop off my legs at one point but still managed to go drug free.

Wade and I talked to bub (baby nemo) through the whole birth helping bub make his way. It took about 40min before the head came out then at 455am carter was born.

Our midwife Alexis was great and followed our birth plan allowing me to have the drug free birth I wanted.

The pains in my legs didn’t allow the hypnobirthing to go as I expected but I know I prepared for the next one 🙂

Hope you are well.

Carter was 8 pound 11oz and I didn’t tear 🙂 i was very happy with that being my first. Tearing was my only concern.

I think it was due to preparation of perineal massage, evening primrose oil and red raspberry leaf tablets and tea and of course the hypnobirthing. 🙂

Wade and I thank you for teaching us hypnobirthing, the knowledge gained allowed us to have a wonderful birth. An experience I will never forget and I’m actually looking forward to the next one, one day. Hopefully the next one will be a hypno water birth 🙂

I have attached pictures of carter 1 day old and a recent picture. We love him to bits.
